Remedial Massage

Remedial massage aims to locate and help repair damaged, knotted, tense or immobile muscles and tendons. It works by knowledge of the muscular system, how it responds to touch and by enhancing the body's own healing process. The therapist assesses the body in a wholistic manner and takes into consideration possible causation and contributing factors.

Benefits include:

  1. Increased blood circulation

  2. Improved lymphatic flow

  3. Reduced pain and tightness in muscles

  4. Helps release adhesions in muscles and connective tissue

  5. Improved joint mobility and reduced stiffness

  6. Enhanced recovery from injuries

  7. Assists in prevention of injuries and muscular complaints

  8. A deeper awareness of the body and how it is functioning

Techniques include:

  1. Deep tissue massage ~ focusing on the deeper layers of muscle tissue

  2. Trigger point therapy ~ focusing on the hyperirritable areas in soft tissue known as trigger points. Firm pressure is applied until pain subsides and the muscle releases

  3. Stretching ~ focusing on lengthening muscle fibers of one muscle group whilst simultaneously relaxing and shortening the opposing muscle group. Passive or PNF stretches are used

Treatment Options:

  1. 1 hour massage
for initial consultations or complex treatments

  2. 30 minute massage
    follow up or maintenance treatments
